The new Mystetskyj Arsenal Cultural-Art and Museum Complex in Kiev is a project with epicentral power. It's a typical European project where the new coexists with what's already there, where the new is building upon and at the same time enriching the existing context. It's positioned into one of the Kiev's historical cores, Pechersk. The manner of the implementation of the new Cultural Complex onto the site reveals the "archaeology" of the site itself with the remains of a fortress, the ramparts, and the large Arsenal building.

The new Cultural Complex is concentrated behind the fortress ramparts on the west side of the site in such a way that a large open space is created between the Arsenal building, the ramparts and the perimeter roads - Mystetskyj Square. The space of the Square connects the new Cultural Complex and the Arsenal building with the Lavra Monastery: Mystetskyj Square also acts as a square in front of the monastery. Mystetskyj Square becomes one of the main squares in the entire city of Kiev, the urban void the dimensions, shape, and furnishings of which stimulate all sorts of activities in all seasons, by day and at night.

Two covered ramp extensions stretch over the green ramparts and connect the two levels of the Cultural Complex podium with the space of the square.

The new Cultural Complex of Ukrainian music, film, museum of contemporary art with a hotel, a building of creative offices and an administrative building is a compact conglomerate of individual buildings' built mass, interconnected by the covered space of the podium, on the same level as the ramparts ridge.

The podium is the main public space of the Cultural Complex that unfolds from the panoramic footpath on the top of the ramparts, traverses the multi-storeyed foyers of the three main buildings, i.e. Centre of Ukrainian Music, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Centre for Cinema and Screen Arts, and makes its way across the interior campus plaza into the hotel foyer and the lobby of the office buildings. The podium is the central space, the mall of the entire Cultural Complex. The exterior part of the podium is covered by a glass lamella roof that opens and closes according to the season. From the podium and the scenic footpath along the ramparts, a perspective of the activity on Mystetskyj Square and the golden domes of Lavra further on presents itself to us. The podium is the new ground floor of the entire Cultural Complex, it's Kiev's new esplanade.
